چکیده

Control methods of the commercial prosthetic hands were categorized into three distinct generations by a previous work [1]; first generation used an on-off switch type control scheme for hand motor activation. Second generation hands have ability to adjust thresholds for motor activation, and proportional controllability of motor speed was provided in this generation. In the third generation, control options can be modified easily, because they utilize programmable microprocessors. Even in the third generation or proportional control systems, motor activation is based on the threshold of controller input signal; therefore, appropriate adjustment of the threshold, or an amplifier gain in a myoelectric sensor, is a significant issue for highperformance uses of the prosthetic hand, which may leads to high acceptance ratio of myoelectric hand prostheses.

Study on Operational Conditions to Minimize Membrane Fouling in Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) System for Wastewater Treatment-Preliminary Pilot Tests

In this study, effect of antiscalant usage on minimizing of membrane fouling due to high water hardness during wastewater treatment tests run by a pilot-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) system. The membranes used in these studies were Kubota flat sheet MBR membranes made from polyethylene with a pore size of 0.4 micrometer. Preliminary tests were carried out with tap water...

sEMG Sensor Using Polypyrrole-Coated Nonwoven Fabric Sheet for Practical Control of Prosthetic Hand

One of the greatest challenges of using a myoelectric prosthetic hand in daily life is to conveniently measure stable myoelectric signals. This study proposes a novel surface electromyography (sEMG) sensor using polypyrrole-coated nonwoven fabric sheet as electrodes (PPy electrodes) to allow people with disabilities to control prosthetic limbs. The PPy electrodes are sewn on an elastic band to ...

Performance Modeling of Power Generation System of a Thermal Plant

The present paper discusses the development of a performance model of power generation system of a thermal plant for performance evaluation using Markov technique and probabilistic approach. The study covers two areas: development of a predictive model and evaluation of performance with the help of developed model. The present system of thermal plant under study consists of four subsystems with...

A Myoelectric Control Evaluation and Trainer System

A computer program, which was developed to train and assess child upper limb amputees in the use of myoelectric control, is described. The program permits a user to open and close a graphic hand using myoelectric control and automatically saves assessment results. The program was designed to be entertaining for children and easy to use for therapists. Preliminary testing of the program was done...

Assessment of Myoelectric Controller Performance and Kinematic Behavior of a Novel Soft Synergy-Inspired Robotic Hand for Prosthetic Applications

Myoelectric artificial limbs can significantly advance the state of the art in prosthetics, since they can be used to control mechatronic devices through muscular activity in a way that mimics how the subjects used to activate their muscles before limb loss. However, surveys indicate that dissatisfaction with the functionality of terminal devices underlies the widespread abandonment of prosthes...
